What I Need 07:03
Don’t pray for me Your Gods not listening and that’s just fine by me Oh the last thing I need is his sympathy Stick your pity Your home cooked meals of well-meaning intentions Oh it’s not what I need It’s not what I need Do you know what I need You come to me I pick you so efficiently You make me laugh you make me cry you kiss my neck so tenderly It’s just what I need Yeah, it’s just what I need Oh it’s just what I need Just what I need Yeah it’s just what I need You come to me I pick you so efficiently You make me laugh you make me cry you kiss my lips so tenderly Oh it’s just what I need Yeah, it’s just what I need Oh just what I need Oh it’s just what I need Yeah just what I need You talk mortality Naïve armchair philosophy I told you what I need I told you what I need Just what I need Keep it real Old school zest free Wake me early with gin in, in my coffee That’s what I need Just what I need Don’t you know what I need You’re stuck with me Thanks to this, absurdity Perfect time to give me Perfect time to give me what I need Oh just what I need Just what I need Oh just what I need Just what I need Oh just what I need Just what I need

Home 04:11
Your fingers on the strings You play them so beautifully I’m drawn towards you Emerging from the vale My beauty’s forever yours If you’ll always play for me Now take my hand and guide me home We dance and sing and laugh and cry I love you so perfectly On your wedding day you summon me Yet the smoke makes the priests cry No omens of good fortune For my candle does not catch fire In those bushes, do you see him He’ll surely harm you and take me with him Flee through the forest and run to safety Lead me to the other side and take me home I run I fall the serpent strikes The venom spreads so quickly And Hades takes me Again I hear your fingers Playing so beautifully I knew that you would follow And come to save me I’ll follow you so closely Now guide me from this underworld And take me home My love I am close behind you You promised Hades you would not turn to check The light is not yet upon me Yet you turn and now I can never go home

That’s beautiful, lovely words that you said So beautiful, love letter last to my bed I always held a place for you in my heart From Hydra to Montreal, New York, Oslo, never truly apart So beautiful, just beautiful, that’s beautiful I strum a twenty dollar guitar That you left at the beachouse I had your love but your lack of trust Was never in doubt So I’ll just play this old guitar That you left at my beachouse And it sounds so beautiful, just beautiful, that’s beautiful You say you’re only steps behind, in this short journey Evicted from beauty, expelled from all eternity Dearest you address me, wish me a safe journey Say that you could never forget me So beautiful, just beautiful, that’s beautiful I used to start each day with coffee In the cup that you left me Until I smashed it into one thousand pieces I can still recall the coffee we shared It was so bitter but tasted so beautiful, just beautiful, that’s beautiful So beautiful, just beautiful Oh I’m reaching out my hand I’m close behind you Oh I’m reaching out my hand I’ve always loved you Oh I’m stretching out my hand Don’t say anymore Oh I’m reaching out my hand Take my hand So beautiful, that’s beautiful, just beautiful, that’s beautiful, so beautiful, just beautiful

The Edge 04:27
Now I feel so close to you Just lean back a little And let me share the weight With my arms wrapped around you Oh the edge is a little further away I watch you floating naked, smiling, next to me I want to reach out, it’s only a dream What does it mean Crying like a baby when I hear you again I feel so close to you I feel so close to you Raise your eyes a little Turn your head you’ll see I’m always beside you Now tell me what’s the rush hey Oh we have more than enough Let me share it with you For I feel so close to you Just lean back a little And let me take some weight With my arms wrapped around you Oh the edge is a, little further away Shed your clothes and hold on to me Close your eyes, let’s go to sleep I’ll take your nightmares, give you back The sweetest dreams, I feel so close Oh I feel so close to you Yeah I feel so close to you So close to you Reaching out for you I can feel you now Let me take the weight With my arms around you Fall into me, I’ll take you away Away a little further Oh just a little further From the edge below With my arms around you Oh the edge is a little further away Oh I feel so close to you Yes I feel so close to you So close to you
5.
Way Too Deep 04:35
I built my own castle, yet no tyro am I Oh not when I’m so crafty, yeah not when I’m so sly Your daughter bore my fruit, and then she watched them die Oh Mary why’d you pick me, all your sisters married Gods I’m just a mere mortal yet you guide me as I sail The water’s getting deep now, oh so deep, way too deep Way too deep The chains that hold me down, they’re slowly killing me Thanatos grant me one wish, before Charon takes me Oh you wear the chains so well, the uproar’s on me Oh Mary does she love me, oh how much can she care When she throws my naked body, into the public square Oh I feel my soul sinking, the Styx I can’t snare, I’m in too deep Way too deep Way too deep Sisyphus has but one boulder, and one mountain peak I’ve got an entire mountain range Many boulders crushing me I always knew there was no heaven, always knew there was a hell, for me Destroy your Tarantos, one stone at a time Fill in this valley, and bury me inside, oh so deep, down so deep Way too deep Way too deep
6.
Ocean Glass 03:44
You say that I’m, the love of your life Days before you leave again No need for goodbyes No regrets, no remorse But then I see ocean glass and I want to cry Just for you I would find it all All the ocean glass For you, just for you All the blues and browns and whites and greens and all the other pretty colours, in between Your hold on me It might seem so tight Our lips they dance together for most of the night But it ain’t right Something’s not right But then I see ocean glass and I want to cry Endless beaches Shifting shorelines I can’t find your ocean glass, anymore No tears for you No final goodbyes No greatest heartbreak No will to try No remorse But then I see ocean glass and I want to cry
7.
Lydia 03:47
Slight brush of your leg, concealed below An intentional accident, well only you know A whiff of chemistry lingers dangerously You’re as forbidden now as you’ve ever been Lydia, so playful yet so confident you are Lydia, your vulnerability oh it doesn’t fool me Your hand strokes my arm for all to see I give you my eyes, you fall into me The forbidding glares come from everywhere C’est la vie it just increases my dare Lydia, so playful yet so confident you are Lydia, your vulnerability oh it doesn’t fool me Through sliding doors, I searched for you outside If I found you oh what might have been The judgement of others, would have forced us underground Our passion is ours it’s not for others to see Age has not weathered you, not in the slightest I see Through the same gaze, your beauty encaptures me Time cannot fade our concealed desire But you’re as forbidden now as you’ve ever been Lydia, so playful yet so confident you are Lydia, your vulnerability oh it doesn’t fool me Lydia, so playful yet so confident you are Lydia, your vulnerability oh it doesn’t fool me

Longing 03:08
My lips on your neck, you surrender much Pleasure within, secrets exposed Understanding each other, learning grows And now I’m longing for your touch Never thought I’d miss you this much Woken midnight, drunken from sleep I glance over, a faint shadow greets I reach across, to stroke your hair My heart sinks, you’re not there Longing for, last week Longing for, when we’ll meet Longing for, longing for Longing for you Sharing ourselves open and raw Vulnerable like never before Intimate thought, intimate touch Intimacy, absolute trust But I’m longing for you so much You’re so far away, I need your touch Singing and laughing, love slowly falls Crazy feelings, together can we soar And while you escape I’m here alone, longing waiting Longing for, last week, Longing for, when we’ll meet Longing for, longing for, Longing for you Longing for, last week, Longing for, when we’ll meet Can’t help longing for you

Again 06:12
When I was immortal, and you were a genie Out of the bottle, and into my dreams Together we were immortal I held you close to me Now all these later, I put you back again Into the bottle, metaphorically Now grant me three wishes I wish that I could do better, that I could do better Wish that I could do better again When I was immortal, with opportunities Many mistakes later, they’re few and far between When you were a genie, ahead of you your dreams I tried to guide you, not always the best it seems Oh I had a dream, you were a genie once more I caught your fall I held you in my arms, held you in my arms, held you in my arms again When I was immortal, a gift from you Everything made sense, everything was true Now all these years later, I wish I could give to you The same gift that you gave me, perhaps a genie will If you had three wishes, what would you choose Would you turn to me, and say that We could do better, we could do better, we could do better again We could do better, we could do better, we could do better again We could do better, we could do better, we could do better again I could do better, I could do better, I could do better again

about

What I Need is the sixth album from Melbourne band 2 Inch Tape.

As you journey through the albums nine tracks you can feel the likes of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and Radiohead along for the ride. The opening title track would sit nicely amongst Youngs Ditch Trilogy, whilst the use of complex rhythms in Way Too Deep and The Edge and layered textures throughout of bowed vibraphone, ondes musicales and operatic voices hark to a Yorke/ Greenwood creation.

Rigoni’s lyrics are cemented in heartfelt sincerity highlighted by the deeply personal lyrics of What I Need, The Edge, Longing and Again. Way Too Deep speaks to many of us who struggle with the multiplying demands of modern life whilst That’s Beautiful draws inspiration from Cohen’s final letter to Marianne Ihlen. Sysiphus, Eurydice and Lydia are amongst the cast that draw these songs into a cohesive album.
